The benefits of intermittent fasting for memory and attention, according to recent research

Intermittent fasting is an eating habit based on limiting the time between eating and consuming food. It is done for a set number of hours or days, while maintaining zero or very few calories, which is called fasting.
Recent research in Spain found that intermittent fasting has significant benefits for memory and attention in obese people.
Scientists at the Biomedical Research Institute of Malaga (IBIMA Bionand platform), in a study led by Dr. Francisco J. Tinahones, compared intermittent fasting with the balanced Mediterranean diet and the ketogenic diet (high in fat). The clinical trial included 96 obese adults, divided into three groups for each diet.
The study's results showed that while the three diets produced comparable weight loss, the intermittent fasting group showed better cognitive performance on various tests compared to the other diets. Beyond calories, this dietary pattern could influence the reduction in cognitive decline.
The full findings can be seen in Gut, a medical research journal.
