Brazil reports 32 cases of methanol poisoning; suspected cases decline

Brazil has 32 cases of methanol poisoning in alcoholic beverages, according to data from the Ministry of Health updated this Monday 13th. The ministry is investigating another 181 cases.

According to Monday's report, the number decreased compared to the last survey, as 71 notifications were discarded. The number of deaths remained unchanged, with five fatalities so far.

Among the confirmed cases of poisoning: there are 28 in São Paulo, 3 in Paraná and 1 in Rio Grande do Sul. As for deaths, 5 were confirmed in SP and another 9 remain under investigation: 3 in SP, 3 in PE, 1 in MS, 1 in MG and 1 in CE.

Regarding suspected cases, São Paulo is the state with the highest concentration, accounting for 100 cases under investigation. Next come Pernambuco with 43 suspected cases, Espírito Santo (9), Rio Grande do Sul (6), Rio de Janeiro (5), Mato Grosso do Sul (4), Piauí (4), Goiás (3), Maranhão (2), Alagoas (2), Minas Gerais (1), Paraná (1), Rondônia (1).

Case records in the municipalities of Garanhuns (PE) and Ipojuca (PE) had their information on municipality of residence updated to Maceió (AL) and São Paulo (SP), respectively.
