As of this year, the support benefit is available to a broader group of eligible individuals. In 2025, the benefit ranges from PLN 751.56 to PLN 4,133.60.
Those interested in receiving the benefit should note that eligibility for the support benefit is contingent upon the person with a disability obtaining a decision determining the level of support needed. An application for such a decision must be submitted to the provincial disability assessment team.
After indexation from 1 March 2025, the social pension amounts to PLN 1,878.91, and consequently the support benefit ranges from PLN 751.56 to a maximum of PLN 4,133.60.
In 2024, the benefit could only be granted to those who had a decision specifying the level of support from 87 points to 100 points. However, from 2025, it can also be paid when the need for support was determined at a level of 78-86 points.
Schedule for the introduction of the support benefit:
- Stage I - from 1 January 2024 - support benefit available to people with disabilities with the highest levels of support need, i.e. from 87 to 100 points
- Stage II - from 1 January 2025 - support benefit also available to people with disabilities with subsequent levels of support need, i.e. from 78 to 86 points
- III - the last stage - from 1 January 2026 - the support benefit will also be available to people with disabilities with other eligible levels of support need, i.e. from 70 to 77 points.
The support benefit ranges from 40 to 220 percent of the current social pension. Depending on the level of support needed, it will be:
- 95-100 points - 220 percent of the social pension;
- 90-94 points - 180 percent of the pension;
- 85-89 points - 120 percent of the pension;
- 80-84 points - 80 percent of the pension;
- 75-79 points - 60 percent of the pension;
- 70-74 points - 40 percent of the pension.
As Gazeta Wyborcza explains, the caregiver of a person receiving a support benefit can submit an application to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) for coverage of retirement, disability, and health insurance contributions. In this situation, the caregiver will be eligible for a higher retirement or disability pension and will be provided with free healthcare.
However, caregivers must meet certain conditions:
- do not undertake employment or other gainful employment due to the need to care for a person receiving support benefits,
- live and manage together with the person receiving the support benefit,
- are not covered by the obligation to pay pension and disability insurance on other grounds (and therefore cannot be covered by, for example, KRUS, i.e. agricultural insurance),
- they have no established right to a pension or disability pension,
- are not registered for compulsory health insurance on any other basis (including KRUS).
Importantly, however, only one person providing care for a person receiving support benefits is eligible to apply for insurance. Interested caregivers must submit an application using the USW-1 form, which is available only electronically. Furthermore, if a caregiver no longer meets the conditions for insurance, including terminating care, they are obligated to notify ZUS (Social Insurance Institution).
