A second outbreak of lumpy skin disease confirmed in Ain, the animals were slaughtered

On Saturday, September 6, a second outbreak of contagious lumpy skin disease was confirmed in Ain, in Injoux-Génissiat. The five heifers were slaughtered.
Following the discovery of the first cases on August 23 in the Ain department, a second outbreak of contagious nodular skin disease (CND) was confirmed yesterday, Saturday September 6, in Injoux-Génissiat.
As Gilles Brenon, president of the Chamber of Agriculture, confirmed to our colleagues at Le Progrès , it concerns five heifers, "an isolated batch in a pasture. They were not yet vaccinated and there were suspicions. The analyses spoke for themselves," he indicated. The five sick animals were slaughtered.
For the next 45 days, specific rules are in place. The movement of cattle is prohibited, with the exception of those destined for the slaughterhouse or within the farm in certain cases and subject to an exemption issued by the Ain Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations (DDPP). Vaccination of cattle in the area must be carried out as soon as possible.
