Innovative, personalized advanced treatment products will be produced domestically

Velioğlu made a statement regarding the "Regulation on Products Obtained from Human Tissues and Cells and Centers Related to These Products," published in the Official Gazette on September 4 by the Ministry of Health.

Velioğlu emphasized that their goal is to make Türkiye a leading global player in the field of cell, tissue, and advanced therapy medical products. He explained, "Personalized, innovative advanced therapy products will now be produced domestically in our country and will begin to be administered to our patients early. I can cite gene, stem cell, and tissue engineering therapy products as examples of these innovative therapeutic products. I want to emphasize that we will now produce cell-based advanced therapy products like CAR-T Cell in our country and administer them to our patients, rather than sending them abroad."

Velioğlu emphasized that instead of tissues and cells brought from abroad, domestic products produced from the patient's own tissue or samples taken from suitable donors will be used, adding that this will reduce the risk of the body rejecting the treatment and increase the success rate of the treatments.

Velioğlu stated that these medical products, produced in accordance with international regulations, can be used not only in Türkiye but also worldwide, and noted:

"Furthermore, patients from many countries will choose our country for the advanced therapeutic products and applications we produce and develop. This will increase Türkiye's health tourism potential. We will monitor the products we produce in tissue and cell centers in real time, from software development and production to patient application. This will ensure that cell and tissue-based treatments administered to patients are safe, effective, and their results are traceable."

Velioğlu emphasized that personalized treatment products will be developed through studies led by the Ministry of Health and coordinated by the Turkish Health Institutes. He said, "This will contribute to the development of new treatment methods and the expansion of product diversity. As a first public step in this regard, we have launched a tissue cell center at Adana City Hospital and have begun production. We plan to begin production in our other city hospitals."
