Effective ways to deal with edema

Nutrition and Dietetics Specialist Elanur Yılmaz Akay shared important information about the causes of edema and its possible solutions. She explained that edema, a common problem in society, is caused by excess fluid accumulation in body tissues. "Edema, which typically appears in areas like the ankles, legs, hands, and face, manifests as skin tightness, swelling, indentation when pressed, and limited movement," she said.
REASONS THAT TRIGGER EDEMAAkay emphasized that dietary habits play a critical role in the development of edema, saying, "Excessively salty foods, pickles, ready-made sauces, chips, packaged and processed foods, sodas, excess carbohydrates, alcohol, and caffeine are the primary triggers of edema. Prolonged standing, inactivity, and certain medications can also cause edema."
NATURAL EDEMA REDUCERSStating that the most effective method in combating edema is adequate water consumption, Dietician Akay stated that the following foods support edema elimination:
"Pumpkin: With its fibrous structure, it facilitates digestion and reduces edema.
Parsley: It has a natural diuretic effect.
Pineapple: Fights inflammation and edema thanks to the bromelain enzyme.
Cherry stalk tea: Traditionally known as an edema reliever.
Cucumber and green tea: Relieves edema with their antioxidant properties.
LIFESTYLE CHANGES ARE A MUSTAkay stated that avoiding carbohydrates, getting regular sleep, and light exercise also contribute to reducing edema. He added, "Daily water consumption is of primary importance. Natural products like zucchini, parsley, and pineapple are helpful in reducing edema. It's possible to manage edema with these simple yet effective steps," and urged everyone to adopt a conscious diet.
