- The fate of the last maternity ward in the Bieszczady Mountains hangs in the balance. The district hospital in Lesko, drowning in debt, may close its gynecology and obstetrics ward
- A meeting is scheduled for July 1 at the Ministry of Health to discuss the future of the facility.
- Employees and patients organize a picket at Miodowa 15 in Warsaw
We have written about the problems of the district hospital in Lesko many times . The facility is in a critical financial situation. Last week, there were 50 thousand zlotys in its account, and the management is unable to pay salaries.
The debt - including in parabanks - has been growing for years and has now reached over PLN 110 million, which is almost twice the amount of the contract with the National Health Fund. Last week, the Lesko County Council adopted a draft resolution to close, among others, the obstetrics and gynecology department, which generates the greatest losses .
In 2024, 197 children were born in the hospital in Lesko. This is more than half less than the 400 deliveries recommended by specialists as profitable and, above all, safe for the mothers. The losses of the department last year were calculated at PLN 5.8 million.
After the publication of the texts by Rynek Zdrowia, a discussion broke out, including on social media. It concerns the closure of the last maternity ward in the Bieszczady Mountains.
Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna announced a meeting on this matter. It is scheduled for July 1 at the Ministry of Health.
On the occasion of the meeting, a picket of employees and patients is organized at Miodowa 15.
- We are going to Warsaw to make sure that our demands are heard and implemented - explain the organizers.
