Profeco: These are the best brands of pork cheese

If you're looking to add a unique flavor to your sandwiches, pork cheese is a great option. Made from the meaty, fatty, and skin parts of the pig, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) recommends that we purchase this product consciously and with information, because it may contain high amounts of sodium, sugar, and saturated fat.

According to Profeco in its May 2025 consumer magazine , pork cheese is a food product derived from the processing of pork. Specifically, it comes from the fatty and skin tissues of the pork head.

This food is quite popular in Mexico due to its flavor, and is part of the national meat product offering and belongs to the sausage family. This food is not only made up of pork, but also herbs and other nutrients such as preservatives, phosphates, nitrites, and a considerable amount of salt.

Although salt and other additives help foods expire longer and improve their flavor, Profeco warns that consuming high amounts of sodium and saturated fats is linked to heart disease, such as hypertension.

In this edition of the Consumer Magazine, it is mentioned that “In Mexico, more than 40% of the adult population suffers from hypertension, and half of them don't know it.” , so it is recommended to reduce the consumption of products high in sodium and thus maintain a healthier life.

  • Capistrano ($25 with 100 g)
  • D-KAR ($7 with 100 g)
  • FUD ($27 with 100 g)
  • Galicia ($14 with 100 g)
  • Peñaranda ($76 with 100 g)
  • Salamanca ($11 with 100 g)
  • Tangamanga ($25 with 100 g)

Because this product contains high amounts of sodium and preservatives, you should consume it responsibly. Consumer Magazine advises us to check the expiration date and saturated fat and sodium content on the packaging label.
