Jalisco confirms 97 cases of measles; eight in elementary schools

Jalisco's Secretary of Health, Héctor Raúl Pérez Gómez, confirmed yesterday that the state has 97 active cases of measles, placing it ninth in the nation.
The official acknowledged that one of the main challenges has been the reluctance of some families to receive vaccination teams, which has made it difficult to contain the spread of the virus in areas with high mobility.
For his part, the Secretary of Education, Juan Carlos Flores Miramontes, reported that eight cases of measles have been detected in schools: seven in the municipality of Arandas and one more in San Pedro Tlaquepaque , in a fourth-grade group at a private school.
Flores Miramontes clarified that not entire schools have been closed, but only the groups where infections were confirmed, in accordance with the Ministry of Health's guidelines. "In all cases, the children are from different groups; some are siblings. The important thing is that schools and families work together to keep them isolated and prevent further infections," she explained.
To ensure educational continuity, the Ministry of Education is maintaining distance learning through institutional electronic platforms for the affected groups.
The municipality of Arandas remains the main hotspot, accounting for 65 of the 97 active cases. The majority of infections have occurred among foreign agricultural workers, many of whom have incomplete vaccination schedules or no prior immunization history.
