Saintes: Rocs & Roses, the race for funds for a trek in Senegal

From October 21st to 29th, a group of eleven women and two supervisors will fly to Senegal. The program includes a week-long trek, covering 10 to 12 km per day, interspersed with awareness-raising and prevention activities for the local population. "We'll spend three days in Dakar, visiting health centers, hospitals, and pharmacies. In France, we're lucky to be monitored and supervised; it's more difficult there," observe Valérie, Nathalie, and Louisette, three members of the adventure.

"I needed a sporting challenge. I floated the idea, and it was a hit. Dr. Cambon, who is following us, knows Senegal well. He put everything into action. We have to explain that it affects everyone. I wasn't even 40 when I was affected. We set out on a solidarity and humanitarian action," says the woman who lit the fuse.
The budget is around 30,000 euros, with two-thirds still missing. The Rocs & Roses are multiplying their fundraising efforts. A fundraising campaign has been launched on the Leetchi platform . On Thursday, August 28, the association will meet at the US Saintes rugby clubhouse, at the Yvon-Chevalier complex. On the menu, appetizer platters, a blind test, and a presentation of the journey of these women of heart since 2021.
"There are people who tell us that this disease isn't the only one. It's still the second leading cause of death in France, and we don't forget other diseases."
