Beaune. A new surgical robot has arrived at Hospices Beaune.

Its arrival was eagerly awaited. On Tuesday, June 3, the new Da Vinci Xi surgical robot took its place in the operating room of the Hospices Civils de Beaune.

The state-of-the-art device will be used in several medical procedures such as radical prostatectomy (removal of the prostate), pyeloplasty, cystectomy (surgery to remove the bladder), ureteral reimplantation, hiatal hernia repair, and other abdominal surgeries. After acquiring a new, state-of-the-art laser last January for the urology department, the hospital is continuing its momentum.

Composed of three key elements - a control console, a video column and articulated arms - the Da Vinci Xi robot enables a technological advance and offers "3D vision through the juxtaposition of two cameras, increased precision of gestures through the manipulation of instruments on six axes and access to operating sites that are often difficult in conventional surgery, all with increased safety," the Hospices Civils de Beaune indicated in a press release.

According to the hospital, this new technology promotes patient well-being. It allows for less invasive and less traumatic surgery, as well as faster post-operative recovery. The scars will be "smaller, even invisible," the Hospices de Beaune notes, emphasizing that post-operative complications and infections are reduced compared to conventional operations.

Finally, blood loss is reduced during the operation and pain related to the trauma of the operation is "reduced", making it possible to limit the need for painkillers.
