How to protect yourself from the tiger mosquito?

To avoid mosquito bites, it is recommended to close windows, wear light-colored, long, loose clothing , and use skin repellents or mosquito nets at home.

To prevent a proliferation in your garden, it is advisable to remove or empty containers with rainwater . To limit resting places, it is also necessary to clear brush, trim tall grass and hedges, and prune trees. The fan also helps keep mosquitoes away.

A vector of diseases such as Zika, dengue fever, and chikungunya , the tiger mosquito represents a growing health risk in many departments. In 2025, Mayotte faced a chikungunya epidemic , while Réunion recorded thousands of cases of dengue fever since the beginning of the year. In mainland France, between May 1 and May 27, 2025, health authorities counted 341 imported cases of chikungunya and 247 cases of dengue fever. A case of Zika was also reported in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.

As part of vector control, the tiger mosquito is monitored more closely between May and November. At the regional level, the ARS, through a mosquito control operator, is deploying a network of egg-laying traps in the most populated urban areas. It is also possible to participate in this monitoring via the tiger mosquito reporting portal .
