“They come for the friendliness and security”: a new senior residence has opened its doors in Bergerac

Open since January, the new establishment, made up of 88 apartments, already accommodates around twenty residents.
It 's a concept that's booming in France, particularly in Bergerac (Dordogne). Following the opening of the Jardins d'Arcadie in the city center in October 2024, another senior residence opened its doors in early 2025. Located on Avenue du Général-de-Gaulle, on the Bordeaux road, this establishment has 88 two- and three-room apartments. "But all the two-bedroom apartments are now occupied," warns Sylvain Hivy, sales consultant.

The establishment, dedicated to independent living, currently accommodates around twenty tenants whose average age is around 78. "People come from the Bergerac region but also from all over, Paris, Haute-Savoie, etc., because they are often family reunions," explains the Bergerac resident.
Collaborative kitchenThe apartments feature a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and washing machine, and are equipped with bedding. There's also a lounge area that guests can use to their liking. It opens onto a small garden on the ground floor or a large balcony on the first floor.

Unlike other senior living facilities, Serenly has chosen not to offer communal catering, although a shared kitchen is located in the common areas adjacent to the entrance. "We offer cooking workshops, as well as activities related to creativity, heritage, cultural outings, well-being, and gastronomy. We also offer board games and memory games," explains Pascale Gaudin, the facility's social life coordinator. A pétanque club has even been created. A hair and beauty salon operates with external service providers.
985 euros per month"What they come here looking for is security and conviviality compared to the loneliness they may experience," continues the coordinator, who intends to "listen to the residents' wishes" to build her weekly programs.
These activities, such as access to the gym or shuttles to the city center, are included in the rates. A 38 m² two-room apartment costs €985 per month. "This includes hot and cold water, garbage disposal, internet access, maintenance of common areas, staff 7 days a week, and security of the residence," Sylvain Hivy points out. Tenants are still responsible for electricity and home insurance, as well as secure parking at €40 per month.
Denis Parfait, 81, chose the facility for its competitive prices. "I wanted to rediscover some social interaction, worry less about the house, and get rid of the unnecessary," he adds.
