Zeybek: The judiciary has lost its independence and impartiality under the shadow of the government

Zeybek: The judiciary has lost its independence and impartiality under the shadow of the government

CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek, in his assessment of the CHP mayors who were detained this morning, said, "Those who cannot digest the will manifested at the ballot box are trying to silence, intimidate and discredit their political opponents by means of the judiciary, ignoring democratic legitimacy. The judiciary has lost its independence and impartiality under the shadow of the government. We will continue to protect democracy and the rule of law."

CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek reacted to the recent operations and detentions targeting CHP municipalities. Making a statement on his social media account, Zeybek made the following statements:

"ATTACK ON THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE"

"You cannot usurp the elected will. The detention of our Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar, our Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere, our Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek and our Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Ahmet Şahin is a direct attack on the people's choice.

Those who cannot digest the will manifested at the ballot box are trying to silence, intimidate and discredit their political opponents by ignoring democratic legitimacy through the judiciary. The judiciary has lost its independence and impartiality under the shadow of the government. We will continue to protect democracy and the rule of law. Justice will definitely prevail. This understanding, which is condemned in the conscience of our nation, will take its place in the dark pages of history.
