Turhan Çömez claims that 'Murat Çalık's Forensic Medicine report was tampered with'

Turhan Çömez claims that 'Murat Çalık's Forensic Medicine report was tampered with'

In his speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly, İYİ Party Deputy Group Chairman Turhan Çömez stated that there was a distortion in the report prepared by the Forensic Medicine Institution regarding the imprisoned Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, saying, "The İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital report states that the blast rate in the biopsy is 4-5 percent. Literature says that if a cancer patient has a blast rate of 4-5 percent, the disease is recurring. The Forensic Medicine Institution falsified the 4-5 percent report it received from the training and research hospital. Look, the document here has made the blast rate 3-4 percent."

Addressing the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Health, Çömez said, "Release Mehmet Murat Çalık as soon as possible. Otherwise, I say this with regret. I say this as a physician with two diplomas. If these conditions continue, Mr. Çalık will not be able to leave prison alive."

"THEIR CELLS ARE EXHAUSTED"

Çömez’s speech in Parliament is as follows:

Mehmet Murat Çalık. He has AML, acute myeloid leukemia, and cancer. He also has lymphoma. He lost 20 kilos after entering prison. I have a report from the Ministry of Health's Izmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. Look, in this report, it says, "He has AML. He also has lymphoma, and we performed a bone marrow biopsy on him." It says the blast rate in this biopsy is 4-5 percent. I'm being technical, but I'll explain. I have physician friends who understand me. They say the blast rate is 4-5 percent. The literature says that if a cancer patient has a blast rate of 4-5 percent, this means the disease is recurring. The disease is recurring. Let's stop here because I'll share an important document with you shortly. That's why it says this disease is recurring, so you should be aware of it. Koskoca Training and Research Hospital, Forensic Medicine. It says, 'Do what is necessary for this as soon as possible.'" He says he has neutropenia. He says he has leukopenia. What does that mean? It means his body's defense cells are exhausted. He's in no condition to defend himself. And this patient has lost 20 kilos. He clearly stated it. He says he has malnutrition. That means his body is exhausted, and he added it to the list. He says this patient could develop sepsis in prison and go into septic shock. He could lose his life. I congratulate my physician colleagues. They wrote a very timely and accurate report.

Now I'm going to share a document with you for the record. What should the Forensic Medicine Institute, which received this report, do? Besides, we have legal colleagues. A forensic report is needed for people who are not convicted, but in custody, to be released in this way. Let's say you resisted, you forced them. You wanted to get a report from the forensic medicine department. So why are you distorting this report? Here you go. Forensic medicine falsified the 4-5 percent blast rate that came to them from the training and research hospital. They falsified it. Look, the document here has made it 3-4 percent. This is a terrible scandal. I'm calling out to the Minister of Health from here. I'm calling out to the Minister of Justice from here. This is a scandal. This is deliberately sending someone to their death. Don't do this. Correct this immediately. This is unacceptable. This isn't a mistake. Because do you know why? It wrote 3-4. If it's 3-4, there's no chance of the cancer recurring. But if it's 4-5, the cancer recurred. And forensic medicine, to avoid saying the cancer has recurred, "He falsified documents and information."

"HE CANNOT LEAVE PRISON ALIVE"

"I'm calling out to the Ministry of Forensic Medicine and the Minister of Justice and Health who oversee it. Release Mehmet Murat Çalık as soon as possible. Otherwise, I'm saying this with regret. I'm saying this as a physician with two degrees. If these conditions continue, Mr. Çalık will not leave prison alive, and you will all bear his moral responsibility."
