Mediterranean diet protects from prostate!

Biruni University Faculty of Medicine Hospital Urology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Salabaş said that prostate enlargement manifests itself with complaints of frequent urination, intermittent urination, waking up frequently at night to urinate, decreased urine flow and inability to fully empty urine.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salabaş emphasized that people who eat a plant-based diet have a 19 percent lower risk of fatal prostate cancer compared to those who consume fewer plants, and their prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in the blood are also lower.
Obesity and alcohol trigger
Associate Professor Dr. Emre Salabaş stated, "Those who consume four or more vegetables a day are one-third less likely to develop benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) than those who eat no vegetables at all. Studies have shown an increased risk of BPH in patients with obesity and metabolic syndrome. Therefore, along with a healthy diet that facilitates weight loss, consumption of caffeinated and alcoholic beverages should be reduced to improve symptoms. Avoid Western-style processed meats, sugary drinks, fast food, and meals rich in sauces."
The disease does not recur with the HoLEP method
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salabaş stated that people with a genetic predisposition have a four-fold increased risk of BPH, and added that people over the age of 40 should not neglect their checkups.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salabaş stated that prostate cancer significantly affects quality of life when left untreated, and that with the Holmium Laser (HoLEP) method, patients return to their normal lives within a few days.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salabaş explained that they create a treatment plan based on the patient's age, health status, and prostate enlargement level, and explained the HoLEP treatment method:
With advancements in technology, HoLEP closed prostate surgery has become the gold standard. Large prostates that previously required open surgery can be treated endoscopically with this method. The risk of the prostate regrowing and causing symptoms after HoLEP surgery is extremely low. With this method, patients have a lower risk of bleeding and can be discharged from the hospital more quickly and return to their daily lives. Urinary problems are more relieved and resolved. Patients return to their normal lives within a few days.
