Live surgery symposium: Five clinical cases reviewed

The Live Surgery Symposium, organized by Dünyagöz Hospitals Group, was held with the participation of more than 200 ophthalmologists from 21 centers in 12 provinces of Turkey and Baku.
The hospital combined scientific knowledge with clinical practice, presenting five different clinical cases to colleagues via live broadcast. Case selection, surgical techniques, and outcomes were evaluated on interactive panels.
Ophthalmologist Prof. Dr. Levent Akçay stated that Türkiye holds a significant position in the world of eye surgery, saying, "Turkey is one of the world's top countries in eye surgery. We are one of the few countries where patients from both Turkey and abroad come and where all types of surgery can be performed. Today, we attended this meeting with over two hundred doctors from our twenty-one branches. Our goal was to share new developments in eye surgery and demonstrate the system that integrates all processes from examination to surgery."
'Türkiye IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S HIGHEST-LEVEL COUNTRIES IN EYE SURGERY'Ophthalmologist Prof. Dr. Levent Akçay, emphasizing Türkiye's significant global presence in eye surgery, said, “Turkey is one of the world's top-tier countries in eye surgery. We are one of the few countries where patients from both Turkey and abroad can perform all types of surgery. Today, we attended this meeting with over 200 doctors from our twenty-one branches. Our goal was to share new developments in eye surgery and demonstrate a system that integrates all processes from examination to surgery. With our live surgery application, we demonstrate how we manage the entire process, from the moment a patient arrives at the hospital to the completion of surgery, using artificial intelligence-enabled devices. This system allows surgeries to be performed much more safely and comfortably. Today, we are also introducing our multifocal intraocular lenses, commonly known as ‘smart lenses,’ to our colleagues. The most advanced microscopes, Phaco devices, and next-generation intraocular lenses are used during live surgery.”
Akçay concluded his remarks as follows:
While Turkish ophthalmologists may be less visible internationally in terms of publications, their surgical experience far surpasses that of Europe and the United States. Many patients from Europe come to Türkiye for surgery because the process moves much faster here; a patient can be examined on the first day, complete their tests on the second, undergo surgery on the third, and return home on the fourth. This process can take months abroad. We have a total of five cases in today's live surgery. Three are cataract and smart lens surgeries, and two are myopia and hyperopia treatments, also known as lenticule surgery.
"MY ADVICE TO EVERYONE IS TO GO TO THE RIGHT DOCTOR AND GET EXAMINED PROPERLY"Fifty-nine-year-old Seyithan Yantur, who underwent surgery for eye problems, said, "I had a problem with my eyes. Sometimes I would see darkly, and I couldn't see clearly up close. When I looked far away, my vision would be blurry; it felt like there was smoke in front of my eyes. I'd been experiencing these problems for about a year. Hopefully, everything will improve after the surgery. My advice to everyone is to go to the right doctor and get a proper examination. The doctors here are really good, and I'm very pleased."
"WE WILL CONTINUE TO REPRESENT Türkiye AND TURKISH OPHTHALMOLOGY IN THE BEST WAY INTERNATIONALLY"Güçlü Batkın, CEO of Dünyagöz Hospitals Group, said, “Welcome to the live surgery event of Dünyagöz Hospital Group, which was founded in 1996 and will be celebrating its 30th anniversary next year. We are delighted to be performing live surgeries here today with over 200 of our physicians. Dünyagöz Group has become a world-class healthcare organization with the capacity to serve approximately 1 million patients in 29 specialties. Aware of this responsibility, we offer our surgeons the opportunity to showcase their talents and exchange knowledge with their colleagues through events like this that bring together science and technology. This year, we are placing great importance on our infrastructure and technology investments. We opened a new hospital in Altunizade with a $20 million investment. Our hospital, currently under construction in Samsun, will be the eye hospital of the Black Sea region. Several more investments are underway throughout Turkey. We also aim to grow internationally. We are strengthening our organizational structure in line with this goal and accelerating our international investments. We are planning significant breakthroughs in technology, especially in artificial intelligence. This will be a major step forward for both organizational and medical development.” "This is an area we have high expectations for. We will continue to represent Türkiye and Turkish ophthalmology in the international arena in the best possible way," he said.
