İmamoğlu: If we want to prevent another July 15 incident, we must ensure democracy as soon as possible.

Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and the presidential candidate of the Republican People's Party (CHP), who is detained in Silivri Prison, sent a July 15 message to citizens from his cell.
On the anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt carried out by FETO, İmamoğlu said, "July 15 is one of the darkest nights this land has ever seen."
Reminding citizens of democracy, İmamolu said, "If we want to prevent another July 15th incident in this country, we must become a country of institutions and rules and ensure complete democracy as soon as possible."
İmamoğlu's statement, published on the Presidential Candidate Office's X account, is as follows:
"July 15 is one of the darkest nights this land has ever seen.
That night, when the Parliament was bombed and tanks marched on citizens, our nation, regardless of political views, came together and united. They defended democracy at the cost of their lives and did not allow the coup plotters to pass.
The powerful democratic front formed that night demonstrated to the entire world that the will of the people cannot be captured by any force. Unfortunately, however, not a single self-criticism was offered regarding this destructive structure, which had been protected and carefully nurtured within the state for years.
If we want to prevent another July 15th coup in this country, we must immediately become a country of institutions and rules, ensuring complete democracy. We must immediately ensure judicial independence and the rule of law.
I commemorate with respect our citizens who were martyred while defending democracy on July 15. I offer my gratitude to our veterans.
Sovereignty belongs to the nation unconditionally."
