Expert warned: 'Do not consume more than 100-150 grams of meat per day'

Yozgat City Hospital Specialist Dietician Esra Uysal stated that sacrificial meat should definitely be consumed after waiting and said, "Eid al-Adha is a special period when traditional dishes and especially meat consumption increase. Eating healthy during this period is very important for our health. One of the most common mistakes made during the holiday is to cook and consume sacrificial meat immediately. This is actually not very suitable in terms of both health and taste. As soon as the animal is slaughtered, a process called Rigor Mortis begins in the animal's muscles. This term means that death has occurred, it is the condition in which the animal's muscles harden and remain hard for a while after slaughter, and it can last approximately 12-24 hours. In addition to the meat cooked during this period being hard, difficult to chew, and difficult to digest, it is also below expectations in terms of taste. For all these reasons, it is more appropriate for the meat to rest and wait in the refrigerator for one day and then cook and eat the next day in terms of both health and taste.
Red meat is rich in high-quality protein and iron. It also has a high saturated fat content. Therefore, one of the most important points we should pay attention to when consuming meat is to consume it in moderation. It is not healthy to exceed 100-150 grams of meat per day during the holiday. If this is exceeded, stomach problems, indigestion, constipation, and increased cholesterol may occur.
Again, one of the most common mistakes made during Eid al-Adha is to increase the consumption of offal. Especially cholesterol patients and those at risk of cardiovascular disease should avoid consuming offal. Again, one of the most important points we should pay attention to in meat consumption is the method of cooking the meat. Meat should definitely not be cooked by frying. It can be cooked in the oven, grilled, or boiled. Cooking the meat in its oil is actually sufficient. Adding extra oil can increase calorie intake and cause problems in weight control.
Consuming fiber-rich vegetables and offal along with meat dishes will both facilitate digestion and help meals to be more balanced and more filling. In particular, consuming plenty of lemon salad increases vitamin C intake, helping the body absorb and use the iron we get from meat more efficiently.
''IT SHOULD NOT BE BELOW 2-2.5 LITRES''Considering our increased need for water in the summer months, we should not consume less than 2-2.5 liters of water per day. Adequate water consumption facilitates digestion and speeds up metabolism, while also helping to remove toxins, or harmful substances, from the body.
"Don't forget to take care of your nutrition so that you can have a healthy and enjoyable holiday season," he said.
Uysal reiterated that excessive and unbalanced nutrition during the holiday could lead to health problems, adding that balancing foods such as vegetables, yoghurt and whole grains should not be neglected.
