Early menopause is on the rise!

Early menopause is on the rise!

Do you think your biological clock only slows down in your 50s? You're wrong. Menopause has actually reached a much earlier age. Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Op. Dr. Mine Kaymakçı highlighted the early signs so women aren't caught off guard.

STRESS AND SMOKING Underlining that the average age of menopause in Turkey is generally around 50-51, but for some women, this process can begin before the age of 40, Op. Dr. Kaymakçı said, "Stress, smoking, thyroid and rheumatological diseases, some cancer treatments, environmental toxins, and genetic predisposition can trigger early menopause." Dr. Kaymakçı explained that early menopause is a condition that occurs when women lose ovarian function before the age of 40, and that this process affects not only fertility but also a woman's hormonal, physical, and mental health.

EARLY DIAGNOSIS Op. Dr. Kaymakçı stated that menopause occurring at a young age can irreversibly impact fertility plans, saying, "Early diagnosis can both protect health and preserve the chance of motherhood. Menopause doesn't occur suddenly. It begins with symptoms such as irregular periods, thinning periods, and intermenstrual bleeding. Women who notice these signs should consult a specialist without delay."

A SERIOUS THREAT FOR THOSE WHO WANT A BABY Op. Dr. Kaymakçı stated that early menopause poses a risk, especially for women who want to have children, and drew attention to the following: "A woman entering menopause quickly depletes her egg reserve. Early menopause is now a serious threat for many women who want a baby due to delayed marriage and career plans."

PRP AND STEM CELL METHODS ARE PROMISING Op. Dr. Kaymakçı, noting a misconception about hormone supplements in society, said, "Hormone therapy administered in controlled doses is extremely safe, especially in menopause under the age of 45. It reduces symptoms such as hot flashes, sweating, insomnia, and vaginal dryness. It protects cardiovascular health and bone density. Early menopause can have not only physical but also emotional effects. Women can experience intense stress, lack of acceptance, and loss of self-confidence during this period. If necessary, psychological support can help them overcome this process more healthily. Studies are ongoing to revitalize ovarian tissue using methods such as PRP and stem cells. These are promising developments for the future."

EGG FREEZING Emphasizing that early diagnosis is the most effective treatment method, Op. Dr. Kaymakçı said, "We assess ovarian reserve using hormone levels in women experiencing irregular menstrual cycles. If reserve is low, we offer conservative options such as egg freezing, even if they are unmarried. The goal is to preserve the chance of having children before menopause."
