Prof. Dr. Onur Yaman emphasized that the first step in keeping the spine young is acquiring proper posture habits. He said, “It is very important to sit upright in a chair, support your back, and place your feet flat on the floor. When standing, you should keep your shoulders back and relaxed, and avoid jutting your head too far forward. Looking forward, keeping your shoulders relaxed, and taking balanced steps while walking supports spinal health.” Emphasizing that exercise is one of the most effective ways to maintain spinal health, Prof. Dr. Yaman continued: “Flexibility exercises like yoga and Pilates improve the balance of your spine, while exercises that strengthen the back, abdominal, and hip muscles strengthen the muscles that support the spine. Aerobic activities like walking, swimming, or cycling improve blood circulation, providing better nutrition to the spinal tissues.”
