Don't ignore the risks in the summer months! It can cause permanent vision loss

Conjunctivitis, also known as “red eye disease,” is defined as inflammation of the outer membrane of the eye. It is usually caused by infection (virus or bacteria) in the summer months. Dirty pools and seas, contact between hands and eyes, and sharing towels can all cause the infection to spread. Typical symptoms include redness, watering, crusting, stinging and burning sensations in the eye. Ophthalmology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burak Tanyıldız says, “Early treatment both prevents infection and provides rapid relief of symptoms. Viral conjunctivitis is usually treated with supportive care, while bacterial conjunctivitis is treated with antibiotic drops.”
How to take precautions?
- Do not swim in dirty pools and seas.
- Use swimming goggles in the pool
- Do not touch your eyes with your hands.
