The Ministry of Education and Science has increased the duration of residency training in neurosurgery by one year

According to the departmental order, the period of education under the residency program in full-time form, including holidays granted after passing the state final certification, will be 3 years. The educational volume per year cannot exceed 70 credit units (previously it was 60 credit units), for individual training - 80 credit units (previously 75 credit units).
In federal organizations that train personnel in the interests of defense and state security, the volume of the residency program for one academic year should not exceed 75 credits.
It has been established that the residency program will consist of three blocks: “Disciplines” (with a volume of at least 54 credits), “Practice” (volume of 114 credits) and “State final certification” (volume of 3 credits).
“The organization has the right to use e-learning and distance learning technologies, but a fully electronic format is not permitted,” the text of the document states.
The new Federal State Educational Standard specifies the areas and spheres of educational activity in which graduates who have completed the residency program will be able to carry out professional activities. Among them are education and science (professional training and scientific research), healthcare in the field of neurosurgery, administrative and managerial and office activities.
When developing a residency program, students are offered the opportunity to master elective modules and optional disciplines. In the latter case, the disciplines are not included in the scope of the residency program. If specialists are to be trained in universities that train personnel in the interests of defense and state security, the opportunity to master elective and optional disciplines will be established by the responsible federal body.
The fact that the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation intends to change some Federal State Educational Standards for residency programs became known back in October 2023. Among the specialties for which new Federal State Educational Standards were prepared were: 31.08.56 "neurosurgery", 33.08.03 "pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy", 33.08.02 "management and economics of pharmacy", 33.08.01 "pharmaceutical technology", 31.08.30 "genetics", 31.08.28 "gastroenterology" and 31.08.04 "transfusiology".
In February 2025, the Russian government set quotas for admission to targeted training in higher education institutions for 2025. The list included 88 medical residency specialties, including "neurosurgery". This year, targeted recruitment for this specialty was increased from 85% to 100%. In total, a 100% quota was set for 27 residency programs.
