ULS Algarve reinforces primary healthcare services in Altura and Quarteira this summer

ULS Algarve reinforces primary healthcare services in Altura and Quarteira this summer

Since July 1st, the Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS Algarve) has reinforced its Primary Health Care response capacity to meet the significant increase in the resident and tourist population in the region during the summer months.

The measure aims to ensure greater proximity and clinical safety and, at the same time, alleviate pressure on hospital emergency services.

To this end, ULS Algarve has implemented extended opening hours for acute illness consultations at two strategic points in the region.

The first, at the Quarteira Health Center, with the Acute Disease Consultation on Saturdays and Sundays, between 12:00 and 18:00,

The second concerns the Height Health Extension, with Acute Illness Consultation on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

These consultations are intended for acute episodes of low complexity and do not require prior appointment.

Care is provided by multidisciplinary teams comprised of doctors, nurses, and technical assistants. Only cases that meet clinical criteria for hospitalization are referred to emergency services.

This reinforcement aims to respond quickly to acute health episodes during the summer, ensuring equitable access to healthcare for those living in or visiting the Algarve.

The institution also emphasizes that this strategy helps avoid unnecessary trips to hospitals and improves emergency room waiting times, a major concern during the beach season, which is marked by a high number of visitors to the region.
