The Action chain of stores has recalled a batch of multipacks of a popular snack in Poland, Lay's crisps. It is appealing to customers who have previously purchased them not to consume the product. The reason is serious contamination of the snacks.

Action recalls popular crisps. Appeal: do not eat, return to nearest store

The Action discount chain and PepsiCo announced on Wednesday, July 2, that a batch of multipacks of popular Lay's chips is contaminated. The product is currently being withdrawn from sale throughout Poland. It was accidentally contaminated with an ingredient that should not have been added to food.

"During production, the multipack was accidentally filled with mineral oil not intended for contact with food, containing MOSH and MOAH. A single consumption does not pose a serious risk, but the presence of these mineral compounds, which are not permitted for consumption in the EU, may have a negative impact on health with long-term or regular consumption," the retail chain warns in a published statement.

The warning applies to Lay's Multipack 9-pack chips with:

  • Action product number: 3016891
  • Best before date: 23/08/2025
  • EAN code: 8710398529787
  • Manufacturer code: 340057333.

Both Action and the manufacturer inform about the possibility of returning purchased snacks. Importantly, to receive a refund, it is not necessary to present a receipt. They also appeal to "not eat it".

MOSH (Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons), as Fakt.pl informs, are saturated hydrocarbons derived from mineral oils, i.e. products of petroleum processing. They include alkanes and cycloalkanes. They have the ability to accumulate in the body - especially in the liver, lymph nodes and spleen.

MOAH (Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons) are aromatic hydrocarbons derived from mineral oils, containing single- or multi-ring aromatic structures. They are considered particularly hazardous to health. Some MOAH have carcinogenic and genotoxic properties (they can damage DNA).
