Election of a new director of CMKP. On May 8, a ministerial team meets

- In accordance with the amendment to the Act on the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education in force since January 2025, the Ministry of Health has announced a competition for the new director of the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education
- As we have already informed, five offers were submitted in the February recruitment
- This coming Thursday - May 8 - the ministerial team appointed to decide on the competition will meet again
- Its members include representatives of nurses and midwives as well as doctors. Other medical professions have been omitted, although they also train at the center.
- The amendment to the act on the dismissal of the current head of the centre and changing the method of selecting a new director, disclosed last year by Rynek Zdrowia, was assessed by the community as an "attack on the independence of CMKP"
On May 8, the work of the ministerial team, which will decide on the selection of a new director of the Medical Center for Postgraduate Education, is scheduled to continue. This is another working meeting after the Ministry of Health closed the call for applications for the competition in March. As we reported at the time, five offers were received .
The change in the method of electing the director results from the amendment to the act on CMKP in force since January 2025. Previously - following the example of universities - the head of the center was elected by the College of Electors. The last elections, according to the previous rules, took place in August 2024. Prof. Piotr Kryst was elected for the term from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2028.
Unexpectedly - after public consultations on the draft amendment to the act on CMKP prepared at that time - the Ministry of Health decided to change the rules for electing the director. The insert revealed by Rynek Zdrowia was assessed by the community as an "attack on the independence of CMKP" .
Minister of Health Izabela Leszczyna was allegedly displeased with the fact that the centre employed former deputy minister of health from the PiS era Piotr Bromber, former public health consultant Jarosław Pinkas and former director of CMKP Ryszard Gellert.
Initially, the ministry denied our information, but in an official statement it admitted that the change in the method of selecting the director "results from the need for the Minister of Health to regain control over the activities of the CMKP".
In turn, during the work on the amendment in the Senate, Senator Tomasz Grodzki (KO) spoke about it openly.
There will be a new director of the Postgraduate Medical Education Center- Many former deputy ministers from the Law and Justice cabinet ended up in the CMKP. Not all of them have academic status and medical knowledge - admitted the former Marshal of the Senate Grodzki.
The beneficiary of the confusion regarding the change in the method of selecting the director of the Medical Centre for Postgraduate Education was to be the doctors' self-government. Again, unexpectedly, already in the Sejm, an amendment was introduced so that in the six-person ministerial competition team, initially composed only of civil servants, half of the members were to be representatives of the Supreme Medical Chamber .
The other medical professions opposed this - nurses and midwives, physiotherapists, pharmacists and laboratory diagnosticians. The former met with the Minister of Health Izabela Leszczyna herself and won one place on the team, at the expense of doctors. The other medical professions trained at CMKP - pharmacists, paramedics, laboratory diagnosticians, physiotherapists - were omitted.
Composition of the recruitment team for the CMKP director:
- Marek Kos - Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Health - Chairman of the Team;
- Mariusz Klencki - director of the Department of Medical Personnel Development at the Ministry of Health;
- Rafał Główczyński - director of the Department of Supervision and Control at the Ministry of Health;
- Magda Wiśniewska - representative of the Supreme Medical Council;
- Mateusz Kowalczyk - representative of the Supreme Medical Council;
- Mariola Łodzińska - representative of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives.
The Ministry of Health has repeatedly emphasized that the current director, Piotr Kryst, will be able to participate in the new competition. As expected, he was not interested and did not submit an application.
- In accordance with the act on the CMKP, the recruitment result will be announced on the BIP, CMKP and KPRM websites - informs the Communication Office of the Ministry of Health.
