The infusion that helps calm your nerves naturally and help you sleep like a baby

The infusion that helps calm your nerves naturally and help you sleep like a baby

More than half of the adult population in Spain doesn't get the minimum amount of sleep recommended by experts, which is around 7-8 hours. Poor sleep hygiene, pervasive stress, an unbalanced diet, heavy meals, lack of exercise ... numerous habits worsen the situation, with the quality of nighttime rest deteriorating as we age.

To address insufficient sleep and poor sleep quality, there are countless home remedies that sometimes help, but at other times can worsen the situation. Before taking medication, herbal teas are a good way to try to reverse insomnia. Of all the medicinal herbs available in tea, one stands out as a great remedy for good sleep: lavender.

Although the most popular teas for relaxing after a stressful day are linden, chamomile, or valerian, lavender tea is gaining popularity due to its many health benefits and, above all, its ability to promote rest, which is so essential in today's society.

Lavender tea is widely admired for its calming effects, thanks to its content of compounds such as linalool and linalyl acetate, which act directly on the nervous system. Rich in antioxidants, lavender is an aromatic herb that may help reduce stress by providing a sense of well-being. It also has a sedative effect, which helps promote sleep.

Furthermore, lavender exerts certain analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties on the body, so much so that it has been used for hundreds of years to relieve migraines and muscle pain. Lavender tea also aids digestion after dinner, minimizing flatulence and contributing to restful sleep.

Consuming lavender in tea is a simple and effective option for those seeking a natural alternative to calm anxiety, although special care must be taken with the type of lavender we choose, as not all are suitable. In baking, the most commonly used is English lavender, or Lavandula angustifolia.

Once you have the right ingredients, preparing a tea from this highly recommended plant for finding calm before bed is very simple. Like all infusions, simply heat 250 milliliters of water in a saucepan and, before it reaches a boil, add some dried lavender flowers . Let it steep for 10 minutes and strain the liquid. After letting it cool slightly, you can enjoy all the health benefits of this aromatic and medicinal plant.
