Lombardy: Flu vaccine campaign begins October 1st
From October 1st it starts in Lombardy the 2025/2026 flu vaccination campaign, with the goal of surpassing the results of the previous season. In fact, in the 2024/2025 campaign, the following were administered: 2,086,885 doses, the highest number ever recorded in the Region, with an increase of 190,408 compared to the previous year and a overall vaccination coverage of 20% of the population. For this year, the Lombardy Region has planned the procurement of over 2.7 million doses, which will be distributed among General Practitioners, Paediatricians Free Choice, pharmacies, Social-Healthcare Offering Units such as the RSAs and the vaccination centres of the ASSTs. The timetable foresees that the works will start on October 1st. administrations giving priority to the categories at risk for age, pathology, or profession. Then, starting October 13th, the offer will be extended to the entire population and vaccination will be able to also take place in pharmacies. Finally, from October 20th, also the Asst, through the vaccination centers, will activate the offer for everyone. For children, as usual, the nasal spray vaccine. At the same time, the immunization campaign will start anti-RSV (syncytial virus) aimed at children born from 1 April 2025, with 65,000 doses of Beyfortus available. Last year, this initiative has immunized 65,049 children between 0 and 1 year, reaching 81% coverage and reducing the Emergency room visits from 5,936 to 3,156 and hospitalizations from 2,396 to 1,240. "The timetable we have prepared - explains the councilor to Welfare Guido Bertolaso - will allow us to start in an orderly fashion and speed, giving priority to the most vulnerable. This is a massive prevention campaign, built on experience of last year and strengthened by a widespread network of doctors of families, pediatricians, pharmacies and vaccination centers".
