Fimp pediatricians: More prevention for the health of new generations

Strengthen prevention, support children's health and enhance the role of pediatricians family as a fundamental public health bulwark: they are These are the themes at the centre of the work of the XIX National Congress Fimp, the Italian Federation of Pediatricians, scheduled for Cagliari from 25th to 28th September, entitled 'The Pediatrician of Family to protect the health of tomorrow's adults' and presented in Rome. Over 800 participants are expected, including pediatricians, institutions, scientific societies and associations, for a appointment that will focus on the most urgent challenges of the local pediatrics with the aim of building pathways increasingly effective in supporting the health of new generations. "The title of the Congress wants to send a clear message: the family pediatrician plays a central role in life of tomorrow's adults, guiding and orienting families and parents along the path of their children's growth", he underlined Giuseppe Di Mauro, responsible for the activities scientific research of Fimp. Among the areas in which pediatrics is at the forefront today, family there is pediatric screening for the identification of antibodies of type 1 diabetes and celiac disease, introduced from Law 130/2023 which made Italy the first country to world to adopt this preventive measure. After the results very positive results from the pilot phase, the program is ready to be extended on a national scale. Another pillar of prevention is the promotion of vaccination culture. The family pediatrician is an active role not only in maintaining high vaccination coverage in pediatric age but also in proposing new strategies of prevention, as in the case of infant immunization against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Finally, at Congress will launch a new project, the result of an agreement between Fimp and the Federation of Pharmacists' Associations ftaliani (Fofi) which sees family pediatricians and pharmacists together to strengthen knowledge of life-saving maneuvers in pediatric age.
