Botulinum: Food poisoning cases rise to 14 in Cosenza.

Antitoxin serum administered to seven people
The number of cases of botulism food poisoning at the Annunziata Hospital in Cosenza has risen to 14. The number of people administered the botulinum toxin serum has also risen: seven. Adnkronos Salute learned this from health sources who reassure the public that the situation is "under control" and that "ad hoc protocols" have been developed, with medical coordination focusing only on patients affected by the intoxication. Regarding the serum supplies , health workers report that a mission with a 118 helicopter has been activated for additional supplies, "although there are still two vials," they specify.
For patients, Andrea Bruni, director of the Intensive Care and Resuscitation Unit at the Annunziata Hospital in Cosenza, explained to Adnkronos Salute yesterday, it is impossible to establish recovery times: "Patients in intensive care are seriously ill and therefore deserve special attention. Recovery times? It is impossible to establish; they depend on the amount of toxin ingested and each individual's ability to react to the damage caused by the toxin itself . It is important to remember that the disease can also cause total paralysis of the muscles, including those used for breathing."
The cases are part of a cluster that developed in Diamante, in the province of Cosenza, and is linked to the consumption of sausage and broccoli sandwiches purchased from a food truck . Two deaths have been confirmed so far: a 52-year-old tourist from Cercola (Naples) and a 45-year-old woman from Praia a Mare. The Paola Prosecutor's Office is investigating the incident.
