Saulnois. Cervical cancer: the CPTS offers three screening days in June

Saulnois. Cervical cancer: the CPTS offers three screening days in June

Since October is associated with the fight against breast cancer, June is cervical cancer screening month. In this regard, South Moselle is lagging behind. The CPTS (Provincial Center for the Prevention of Cancer) is therefore taking the initiative and blocking three appointment slots.
Slots have been specifically blocked in Dieuze, Château-Salins and Morhange for screening for cervical cancer and sexually transmitted infections.

Less well-known than Pink October and its actions to fight breast cancer, June is the month of awareness of cervical cancer screening. A disease mainly caused by a persistent infection, lasting 10 to 15 years, by viruses called high-risk human papillomaviruses transmitted sexually. With 3,100 cases diagnosed each year in France , it is the 12th most common female cancer. In 1/3 of cases, it is fatal, and ¾ of patients are under 65 years old.

These figures remain under control thanks to preventive measures. Over the past 20 years, regular screening tests for precancerous lesions and vaccination against human papillomavirus have helped halve the number of new cases, as well as the number of deaths.

So, as it does in October for breast cancer , the Moselle Sud Territorial Professional Health Community is organizing a cervical cancer and sexually transmitted infection screening campaign for women aged 25 to 65.

Because in South Moselle, the screening rate for 2024, estimated at 49.53%, is lower than the averages for Moselle (61.3%), Grand Est (61%), and France (59.5%). However, according to Public Health France, screening could prevent 90% of cases.

Three dates are to be remembered: June 5 in Dieuze, June 12 in Château-Salins, and June 26 in Morhange, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Biogroup Laboratories. During these three slots, the CPTS will provide three independent midwives who will provide cervical screening tests, and the laboratory staff will be able to supplement this with a blood test to detect any sexually transmitted infection. Each of these procedures is covered by the Primary Health Insurance Fund and mutual health insurance companies.

The results will be sent to patients, their attending physician, and the midwife who collected the blood. This campaign also aims to highlight the skills of midwives in gynecology in a sector lacking specialists, and to enable the implementation of personalized follow-up.
