Since receiving the hospital bill, a man from the Jura has been furious, reports Le Progrès . The wife of this octogenarian had a bad fall at her home in Longwy-sur-le-Doubs (Jura), on May 18. The man called for help, and at 11:20 p.m. his wife was taken to the hospital by ambulance. "She arrived at the emergency room at 11:50 p.m.," he says. "And the emergency room doctor decided to admit her at 11:59 p.m."

She was discharged early in the afternoon of May 20. But the hospital charged her three days in total, or more than 3,000 euros, partly covered by Social Security. "That someone can do this really annoys me. This needs to be known," the retiree protested.
The man points to the amount paid by health insurance, at a time when the social security deficit continues to grow. He even sent a letter to the CPAM (Public Health Insurance Fund) on July 24. "I informed the social security that they paid [844.30] euros for one minute." He also asked the hospital for a partial refund of the bill. But his claim was rejected.
Quoted by Le Progrès, the Primary Health Insurance Fund observes that "to date no invoice concerning this hospitalization has been sent to us, making it difficult to respond in detail to this situation."
