How to determine your blood type?

The Rhesus (or RHD) system determines, based on the presence or absence of the D antigen on red blood cells, whether an individual is Rhesus positive (+) or negative (-).

So there are 8 blood groups: groups: A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+ and O-.

The hereditary factor

And how is blood type passed from parent to child? Blood types are inherited. Simply put, your blood type is a function of your parents' blood type. The A and B genes are dominant (they are always expressed), and the O gene is recessive (it is only expressed in the presence of a second O gene). So if your mother is A and your father is O, you are type A. If your mother is A and your father is B, you are AB. If they are both O, you are also O.
