Environment | Burgundy Franche-Comté. Waste sorting: the region is showing the way

The INSEE (National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies) has just released an encouraging report : in 2021, 1.5 million tons of household waste were collected in Bourgogne Franche-Comté, or 529 kg per capita. This figure is 3% lower than the average for metropolitan France. Another notable indicator: 64% of collected waste is sorted, compared to 55% at the national level. And on the treatment side, 57% of waste is recovered, a rate also higher than the national average (49%). At the heart of this dynamic is incentive pricing, a system based on the "polluter pays" principle, and a real change in behavior.
