Aged 103, she cannot find a doctor who agrees to make house calls in Cagnes-sur-Mer

Aged 103, she cannot find a doctor who agrees to make house calls in Cagnes-sur-Mer

Even in the city center, it can be difficult to find a doctor. Germaine Chambaut, 103 years old, has a hard time getting treatment because she can't get around and can't find a professional to come to her bedside from time to time to renew her prescriptions.

"We're not in a difficult-to-access place," notes her son, Marc Chambaut, 71. This woman lives right next to the Parc des Canebiers and the Villette car park in Cagnes-sur-Mer.

"Our problems started six months ago, when the doctor who treats her closed her practice 'for health reasons,' " says Marc on the front door . "It was very convenient because she was in the building. The sign advises calling 15 in case of emergency. But that's not a solution for us while we wait for her to come back - we don't know when, anyway."

"The doctors say it's too complicated."

So this Cagnois rolled up his sleeves and went through the whole phone book. Alas. "No doctor has agreed to come see her at home. They say it's too complicated, that they're not taking new patients, or that they'll soon be retiring. It's just that Mom doesn't have any particular health problems, but she takes heart pills and needs morphine patches since she had a bad fall. She's been bedridden for 3 years and can't move. Luckily, nurses come every day, and the physiotherapist also comes regularly. But that doesn't solve this problem of prescriptions needing renewals."

The man contacted the emergency services, who referred him to SOS Médecin. After making numerous phone calls, he finally spoke to an emergency doctor. "He's very kind and has agreed to come and help us out from time to time, but this isn't a sustainable solution."

Marc, who lives near his mother, comes to stay with her every night to watch over her. "You see, there's no question of putting her in a nursing home. She wouldn't be able to stand it, and neither would I. And besides, she's fine; she just needs a doctor to monitor her. We've done everything we can. So my daughter suggested I contact the press. Maybe that way we'll be able to find someone who'll agree to come and check on my mother from time to time. It's our last hope."
