List of celebrities with Lyme disease; what is it?

American singer Justin Timberlake recently confirmed that he has Lyme disease. This adds to the list of celebrities with this condition.

Lyme disease is a tick-borne bacterial infection that can cause extreme fatigue, chronic pain, and neurological problems if not treated promptly.

Although Lyme disease can affect anyone, the high number of celebrities diagnosed has created the impression that it is a disease "of the rich and famous."

However, the figures show a different reality: according to the WHO, in the US, rates range between 10 and 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with the highest levels in northeastern states such as Maine and Vermont.

Celebrities with Lyme disease Thalia

She revealed in 2008 that she had contracted Lyme disease and faced a long recovery process. She is still undergoing tests to prevent the disease from returning.

Shania Twain

The singer was diagnosed with the disease in the early 2000s. She was bitten by an infected tick while horseback riding, which caused severe symptoms such as dizziness, loss of balance, fainting, and significant damage to her voice.

Justin Bieber

The singer revealed that he has been suffering from Lyme disease since January 2020. He did so on social media to address criticism about his physical appearance and explain the health issues that had plagued him.

The model has shared her experience, including the symptoms she experienced during her treatment, which lasted several years and was described as "almost 15 years of invisible suffering."

Avril Lavigne

The singer contracted Lyme disease in 2014. She publicly revealed her diagnosis in 2015, explaining that the illness left her bedridden for an extended period, up to two years in total, and that she initially didn't know what was wrong with her.

Justin Timberlake

The singer recently announced his diagnosis. "Living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically," he said.
