Miscarriages are certified on an interim form

Miscarriages are certified on an interim form

Dresden. The KBV (Federal Association of German Women's Health Insurance) has already pointed this out, and the KV Sachsen (Saxony Association of German Women's Health Insurance) is now doing it again: Doctors must certify miscarriages since the beginning of the month on a transitional certificate. Physicians can find the relevant form on the KBV website.

The reason for this is a change in the Maternity Protection Act. Since the beginning of June, maternity protection has been in effect from the 13th week of pregnancy, even after a miscarriage. Affected women can decide for themselves whether and for how long they want to work under the emotional stress or whether they want to take advantage of the entire protection period. This declaration can be revoked at any time.

For the work leave to take effect and to be able to claim maternity benefits for this period, a medical certificate of the miscarriage is required. This certificate will be integrated into Form 9 ("Certification of a Premature Birth or Disability of the Child") starting in early 2026. (sve)
